What is Preventative Care?
Preventative care means addressing your health before symptoms take over. In Western medicine, this might include regular checkups, blood work, or reducing smoking and alcohol. In my practice, rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), it means staying in harmony with your internal landscape and the world around you. In my first year of practice I learned that in the early days of Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctors would get paid regularly when patients stayed healthy, in this way the practitioner’s role was to monitor, attune and detect illness before, or as, it arose. I weave this approach into my practice, intending to extend treatment beyond dis-ease.
Preventative Care in TCM
In TCM, care includes the care that keeps you well. This means:
Strengthening your Qi (energy)
Aligning with seasonal rhythms
Supporting emotional resilience
Nourishing your digestion, sleep, and spirit
Routine check-ins much like a Dentist, Doctor or Mechanic suggest.
Preventative acupuncture, seasonal tune-ups, and food therapy are central tools in this care—helping your body adapt before things fall apart.
