Holistic Nutrition, TCM style
Nourishment ≠ calories or macros. It’s about how food meets the body, spirit, and seasons and what you want for your energy given the conditions you are in and the decisions you make.
My work with nutrition is grounded in the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), with a deep respect for how food functions as medicine—not only to treat symptoms, but to sustain vitality and align us with the rhythms of life.
A Relationship-Centered Approach to Food
This isn't a diet program, and it's not about restriction. I guide from TCM’s five elements, organ systems, and the energetics of food: warming and cooling properties, flavours, colours, and seasonal alignment. We work together to understand your body’s unique constitution and what foods support you best, in this moment of your life and the collective web of Life we share.
My approach is:
Rooted in tradition & wisdom: Drawing on 20+ yrs of experience in traditional healing.
Custom and seasonal: Tailored to your current health, emotional world, and the seasons.
Body-positive and full of regard: This work is about care, and informed decision making. As Ruth King reminds us, life is imperfect, impersonal, and impermanent. During our time on Earth I want you to have knowledge about what nourishes you, what is possible for abundant energy and what can heal and prevent illness.
Culturally inclusive: Ancestral and cultural foods are encouraged to join us at the table.
Gentle and abundant: We often start by adding supportive foods, not removing them.
Evidence-informed: Grounded in TCM with respect for modern research where relevant.
What Can Be Treated
Nutrition therapy rooted in Chinese medicine supports a wide range of conditions, including:
Digestive imbalances (bloating, constipation, IBS, gas, reflux)
Menstrual, fertility, and hormonal concerns (including perimenopause)
Fatigue, burnout, and adrenal dysregulation (imbalanced cortisol)
Anxiety, grief, and emotional stress
Blood sugar regulation and metabolic health
Sleep challenges and night sweats
Postpartum nourishment and recovery
Disordered eating and body relationship repair
Immune support and seasonal transitions
Food therapy is a powerful tool while undergoing acupuncture, shiatsu, cupping, or herbal treatment. It helps you feel resourced, steady, and better able to receive other forms of healing.
How It Works
Our work together will centre on:
The energetics of food (warming, cooling, moistening, drying)
Cultivating a healthy connection to your body
The Five Flavours and their effect on the organ systems
Meal timing, preparation, and rituals
Recipes and ingredients that support your current health goals
Reclaiming joy and connection in your relationship with food
Embracing cultural food traditions as healing tools
What to Expect
We can work together in one-on-one sessions or through group offerings.
Community Food Group
Twice a year, I host a free seasonal food medicine group, rooted in TCM, justice, and care. It’s a space to explore what our bodies are asking for, and how to eat in a way that supports health, and regard for our lived experiences.
This group has supported dozens of people in:
Shifting shame around eating
Learning how to feed themselves with care
Building seasonal food rituals
Feeling more in tune with their digestion and energy
1:1 Session
We meet online or can add this to a pre-existing in person booking. You receive:
A thorough TCM assessment
A personalized food therapy plan
Support with emotional patterns tied to eating
Lifestyle recommendations if needed
Discussion on how to support digestion and absorption of Qi.
You do not need to have it all figured out. You do not need to already love your body. You do not need to eat a certain way to be worthy of support. Come as you are—with your favourite food & traditions, your needs, and an appetite for care.

"Before working with Lamia, I didn’t know how disconnected I was from feeding myself. I had been so used to punishing or ignoring my hunger. Now I feel like I'm actually nourishing myself—on purpose."
"This group reminded me that food is an act of radical love."
"Lamia’s approach helped me understand what my body was actually asking for. I stopped chasing what worked for other people and started listening to my own rhythms."

Food is medicine. Food is memory. Food is relationship.
